Heita Faces Off Against Carrington in International Showdown
Mateus "The Beast" Heita is poised to step into boxing’s global arena as he faces off against American fighter Bruce Carrington for the empty WBC Interim World title. The highly anticipated bout is slated for July 26, 2025, at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
Today, Top Rank officially announced this news, greatly pleasing MTC Nestor Sunshine Promotions and Heita, who shared their thoughts as follows:
I've demonstrated to everyone that I'm a top-tier boxer, and taking on the elite has always been my aim since I feel destiny has marked me for success. There’s nothing extraordinary about Carrington; he's just another obstacle I'll conquer.
In reply, Carrington stated: “It’s always exhilarating to compete in my hometown, and I’m eager to present ‘The Shu Shu Show’ once again at The Theater at Madison Square Garden. Given that numerous champions in the featherweight category have avoided my challenge, I commend Heita for stepping up. However, on July 26th, he’ll bear the brunt of my disappointment as I aim to keep emphasizing how formidable our division truly is.”
Currently, Heita has an outstanding record of 14 matches and 14 victories, including 9 knockouts. He holds the 14th spot according to the WBO rankings and ranks 13th as per the WBC standings. Additionally, he is the reigning WBO African champion at the featherweight level. Meanwhile, Carrington leads both the WBO and WBC rankings at number one and maintains an unbeaten streak across his 15 bouts, with 9 ending via knockout. All eyes will be on their clash to see which fighter emerges victorious and secures the title of WBC interim world champion.
In response to the announcement, Nestor Tobias commented, “Mateus ‘The Beast’ Heita’s opportunity to compete for the world title in America is truly astounding. It’s every boxer’s aspiration, and for him to secure such a significant match after only 14 professional bouts is extraordinary. His dedication and effort have paid off; he thoroughly merits this chance. Recently, he faced a grueling contest that honed his skills for this challenging bout abroad. We’re thrilled and optimistic about his prospects of becoming Namibia’s fifth-ever world champion,” Tobias stated.
Meanwhile, the MTC Nestor Sunshine training staff will depart for the United States on Sunday, June 1st, accompanying Jeremiah "Low Key" Nakathila as he gets ready to compete against Abdullah Mason in Norfolk, Virginia on Saturday, June 7th.
